The 18th annual Galena Festival of the Performing Arts will kick off on Wednesday, July 11, and provide daily entertainment through Sunday, July 15. Plan to enjoy a long weekend of outstanding performances, made even more pleasurable by the historic Turner Hall venue. And this year the Festival has added a new family-friendly event – a performance on Sunday afternoon in beautiful Grant Park.
The planned schedule for this year’s Festival is as follows:
Wednesday, July 11, 12 p.m. – To Be! Shakespeare Here and Now
Thursday, July 12, 7:30 p.m. – Classical Night with Cellist Clancy Newman and Violinist Jasmine Lin
Friday, July 13, 7:30 p.m. – The Cats Pajamas
Saturday, July 14, 7:30 p.m. – The Fella Sings Ella
Sunday, July 15, 1 p.m. – Extra Crispy Brass Band
Another new event this year will be a Christmas Concert Sunday, December 9 at 2 p.m., also in Turner Hall (115 S. Bench St., http://www.turnerhall.com). This special concert, along with Galena’s traditional luminaria night the evening before, will be a charming way to usher in the winter holidays.
Part of the fun of the Galena Festival of the Performing Arts is sharing the joy of music with individuals of all ages. Each year new artwork is used on posters and other materials about the Festival – artwork which incorporates references to music and the arts as well as reflecting the unique character of Galena. Once again this year, the Festival art will be selected from pictures created for that purpose by local art students. Be on the lookout for the colorful new Festival posters late this spring.
As always, every one of the Festival concerts is free to the public. We are grateful for all your donations, as they make it possible for us to provide exceptional music each summer. We look forward to seeing you this summer in Galena!
